Participate in Artwork Audio Description Research

We are looking for participants to take part in short interviews for a PhD research project investigating how Australian art galleries and museums can sustainably co-design artwork audio descriptions to increase accessibility for all. Audio descriptions are vivid verbal descriptions of primarily visual information. They are essential for people who are blind or have low vision to access artworks and have benefits for all.

Who can participate?

You are eligible to participate if you are an adult (18+) who identifies with one or both of the following categories:

1. Visitor: People who are blind or have low vision with experience visiting art galleries and museums in Australia (includes people who visit regularly, occasionally or as a once off and with varied experiences of vision, art knowledge and interest).
2. Creator: People who develop, or are interested in developing, artwork audio description and work with or within Australian public art galleries or museums (includes independent audio describers, museum professionals in various roles and artists who may be sighted/non-blind or blind or have low vision)

What will I be asked to do?

You will either take part in a 30-minute (maximum) online interview between August 2026 and early 2027.
