FAQs
Who will see my survey results?
Survey results are anonymous and will be collated by the research team and coded using pseudonyms once the collection phase is finalised. These results will be published at the completion of 2024, once Samantha has completed her academic studies. You may request a copy of the final results earlier by emailing the research team directly.
How long will the survey be open?
This research survey will be available for submissions from 1st July 2023 until 4 pm on the 31st of August 2023. We suggest that you complete your submission ASAP to ensure your experiences are included in the research data.
Who can participate in the survey?
To be eligible to participate in the research, we ask that you be a partner of a former Australian Defence Force Member when they were discharged from military service. If you are no longer with the veteran, we would still like to hear about your experiences. We ask that you be over 18 years old and that your partner/ex-partner transition out of military service between 2013 -2023.
To ensure we maintain ethical compliance protocols we ask those who have a partner/ex-partner currently enlisted in reserves or were being treated for mental health diagnosis at the time of their transition not to participate in this research survey.
Why is this survey being conducted?
The transition from full-time active service to a civilian lifestyle presents a series of complications for ADF veterans and their families. The process of transitioning can have significant psychosocial implications for veterans and veteran families, requiring a specific focus on reintegration to ensure the veteran's holistic well-being. Due to many reasons, there is a significant gap in data on contemporary veteran experiences, even less since the introduction of the updated Defence Force Transition Program (DFTP). We are seeking to investigate what those experiences are through the perceptions of veteran spouses who are often walking the line between both the military and civilian worlds. Your responses will provide valuable insight into this area and assist in future research opportunities.
What are the risks for participating?
We expect that responding to these questions would not be different from the kinds of things you discuss with family or friends. Participation in this study is completely voluntary and anonymous. You may skip any questions you do not want to answer, and you may end the survey at any time. During the survey, you will be asked to include examples of your experience and how they affected you and your partner/ex-partner. The answers you provide will be anonymous with data being de-identified by use of a code/pseudonym to be used in educational assessments including a dissertation.
If you decide to share or advertise the survey on your personal social media accounts, it's crucial to remember the possible risks of unintended public exposure when commenting and engaging with others on social media. It's essential to be cautious and protect your privacy, as well as that of others when sharing personal information. To maintain privacy and minimize the chance of exposure, the research team recommends disabling comments on the post if you choose to share the survey link.
