The Queensland Disability Research Agenda (Agenda) is a research priority platform to inform and guide contemporary disability research for Queensland. The Agenda was developed using a participatory co-design approach for engagement with disability sector stakeholders including disability researchers, people with disability, industry partners, peak disability organisations and government agencies. A series of workshops across Queensland were hosted and facilitated by QDRN Advisory Group member universities (Griffith University, University of Southern Queensland and Central Queensland University) to provide rural, regional, remote and metropolitan representation.
The Agenda recognises that a strengths-based approach to disability research is essential. Stakeholders who participated in generating the Agenda identified that gaps and deficits have been measured and analysed ad nauseam; largely without providing solutions or promoting innovation. The Agenda focuses on identified strengths and regional resources to innovate and achieve recognised goals. The Agenda will support the implementation of Queensland’s Disability Plan (2022-2027) and Australia’s Disability Strategy (2021-2031) by providing a guide for developing a Queensland disability research evidence base. It is expected the Agenda will evolve and reflect emerging research needs over time.
