Welcome to the Citizen Researcher Essentials: A Short Course! This course is designed to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to become active participants in the research process and contribute their unique perspectives as citizen researchers. By leveraging your personal experiences and expertise, you can work alongside researchers to shape the direction of research and drive positive change in areas that matter to you.

Course Content:
This course is delivered online and consists of seven learning topics. It is best if these are completed in order. Each topic will contain a combination of readings, videos, self-reflection questions, and quizzes to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the topics covered. It is recommended to allocate approximately one and a half hours for each module to complete the content thoroughly. Engaging with all the materials will help you gain the necessary knowledge and skills to actively participate in citizen research.

Topic 1: What is consumer involvement in research and why should I become involved?
Topic 2: Research funding and research ethics
Topic 3: The research process and research quality
Topic 4: How do I become involved in research?
Topic 5: Opportunities for consumer involvement
Topic 6: Working as part of the research team
Topic 7: Introduction to working with data


Course Outcomes:
Upon the successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Describe meaningful and authentic consumer involvement in research.
  • Outline the steps involved in the research
  • Recognise different levels of involvement that exist for consumers in research
  • Recognise skills and attributes required as a research team member


Who can do the course?
The "Citizen Researcher Essentials: A Short Course" is designed for individuals who are interested in actively participating in the research process and contributing their personal experiences and expertise as citizen researchers. This course is relevant to a diverse range of individuals, including:

  • People with lived experience of disability
  • Parents and caregivers of people with a disability
  • Health consumers


Requirements:
To do this course, you will require a personal computer, laptop, or tablet with a reliable internet connection.

Recognition:
On completion of the Program, you may be eligible to claim a Griffith Credential the "Partnering with Consumers in Research" badge. To be eligible for the digital badge, you must successfully complete all the quizzes and achieve 80% in each of the learning modules.
